Poor Voter Turn Out In HDMC Elections

DHARWAD: The district recorded poor voter turnout in the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation elections which were held on Friday, September 3, from 7 am to 6 pm. Out of 8.18 lakh voters, only 4.4 lakh voters exercised their franchise, which stands at 53.81%.

Polling in the twin cities wards for the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation elections was slow in the first few hours, but as the day progressed, more electors started to trickle in.

Till 9 a.m., only 7.73% of votes were polled in Hubballi-Dharwad. Official figures indicated that the numbers across wards in the twin cities began to pick up by 11 a.m. By 1 p.m., the polling percentage saw a further increase. It was 29.01 per cent till then.

Ward number 82 recorded the highest voter turn out with 71 percent, while ward number 44 recorded the lowest voting with 38.65 per cent.

Deputy Commissioner Nitesh Patil, and Union Minister Pralhad Joshi along with his family members exercised their franchise. Similarly, Chairman of Legislative Council Basavaraj Horatti, MLAs Jagadish Shettar, Prasad Abbayya, and Arvind Bellad also casted their votes along with their family members.

DC Nitesh Patil said that the polling process came to an end peacefully in all the 824 polling booths. The district administration had identified 93 booths as most sensitive and had made necessary arrangements to avoid any untoward incidents.
