This Bank in Dharwad Fails to Repay Deposit Amount. Fine Imposed

DHARWAD, APRIL 23: Dharwad District Consumer Commission has imposed fine on Dharwad Vikas Urban Credit Society and asked it to pay compensation to the complainant customer.

According to a press release, Renuka Basaragi and Geetha Kambali, residents of Kamalapur in Dharwad district, deposited Rs.4,93,244/- for a period of one year and 6 months in Dharwad Vikas Urban Credit Society. When they requested the society to return the money after the expiry of the deposit period, the Society failed to return the deposit money and interest.

Renuka and Geetha then filed a complaint to the Dharwad District Consumer Commission to take appropriate action against the Society stating that they have been cheated by the conduct of the society.

Commission Chairman Eashappa Bhute and members conducted a thorough investigation into the matter. They found that, as per the agreement, it is the duty of the society to return the money to the depositor along with interest.

The consumer forum directed the Society to return the deposit amount with 8% interest to the complainant. The commission also ordered the Society to pay Rs.50,000/- as compensation and Rs.10,000/- as their case expenses for the inconvenience and mental torture caused to the complainants.
