HUBBALLI, Mar 18: In a bid to ensure that the Lok Sabha elections are held in a free and fair manner, all the political parties must compulsorily follow the Model Code of Conduct, said Deputy Commissioner Divya Prabhu, who is also the District Returning Officer.

Addressing a workshop of political parties representatives, the DC said that the administration has set up as many as 24 check-posts in and around the district to contain election malpractice.

In the check-posts located in sensitive and hyper-sensitive zones, armed security forces would be deployed, while CCTV cameras would be installed in all the check-posts, she added.

Apart from police, Home Guards, forest officials, Commercial Tax officials, and Revenue officials would be deployed at the check-posts, and they would be working round-the-clock.

These check-posts have been opened at Ron Cross, Kondikoppa on Hubballi-Gadag road, at Laxmeshwar-Gudgeri Cross, Tadas Cross and Sherwad in Kundgol taluk, Uppinbetageri, UAS in Dharwad, Harobelvadi on Saundatti Road, Hebballi Agasi on Dharwad-Navalgund road, Tegur Cross, and on Hubablli-Belagavi NH-48.

In Hubballi-Dharwad East constituency, check-posts are set up at Gabbur Cross, Karwar Road, and Sonia Gandhi Nagar, while check-posts are set up on Gadag Road, Navalgund Road, and Sulla Cross in Hubballi-Dharwad Central. In Hubballi-Dharwad West constituency, check-posts are set up in Gokul village, Kalghatagi Road, Goa Road, and Haliyal Road.

In Kalghatgi taluk, check-posts are set up on Sangatikoppa Road, Alnavar on Dharwad-Goa Road, and at Tobakadahonnalli Cross.

A single-window system has been opened at the Central Election Office in DC compound To facilitate the political parties get permission to hold rallies, campaigns, and open public meetings. The parties have to apply for permission through Suvidha app.

To receive and register complaints on poll code violation and election malpractice, citizens have been asked to call on toll-free number 1950 or use the C-vigil app, Divya Prabhu said.
