Section 144 to be Imposed in Dharwad District for 3 Days

HUBBALLI, April 26: In a bid to ensure smooth, free and fair polling on May 7, Section 144 will be imposed from 6 pm on May 5 to 6 pm on May 8 across Dharwad district.

Returning Officer Divya Prabhu, who is also the Deputy Commissioner of Dharwad district, passed the order on Friday and said that in the interest of maintaining law and order throughout Dharwad district and to conducting polls smoothly and freely, Section 144 of CRPC 1973 and Section 35 of Karnataka Police Act, 1963 will be imposed in the jurisdiction of all the assembly constituencies of Dharwad district from 6 pm on May 5 to 6 pm on May 8.

The order will be applicable in the following assembly constituencies: 69-Navalagund, 70-Kundagol, 71-Dharwad, 72-Hubballi-Dharwad (East), 73-Hubballi-Dharwad (Central), 74-Hubballi-Dharwad (West) and in 75-Kalghatagi assembly constituency. will hold Lok Sabha general election on May 7, 2024.

The Police Department, all Assistant Returning Officers and concerned officials have been directed to effectively implement the Prohibitory Orders as a precaution against any untoward incident on the day of polling and in the interest of maintaining the integrity of voting, she added.

Action Against Violators: Violators of the order will be prosecuted under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code. And this order is not applicable to the polling staff and officers, police officers, election staff, officials and voters who go to the polling booths individually and vote, Returning Officer Divya Prabhu said in the order.
