SWR to Increase RPF Escorting After Knife Attack on TC in Hubballi Division

HUBBALLI, May 23: The South-Western Railway (SWR) Hubballi division has taken measures to improve the security in trains and railway stations in the wake of recent incidents.

Recently, a ticket-less passenger attacked ticket checker Ashraf Kittur and killed a housekeeping staff Devarashi Verma by stabbing in a reserved coach of Puducherry-Dadar Express at Khanapur recently. Also, jilted lover of Anjali murder case Girish Savant had stabbed a woman passenger in a train before his arrest.

In a release, SWR officials said, “Railway Protection Force and Government Railway Police have been escorting more than 20 trains daily in Hubballi Division. It is decided to introduce escorting in 12 more trains by the RPF,”.

Provision of CCTVs in stations and trains:

CCTVs have been installed in 8 major stations like Hubballi, Belagavi, Ballari, Vijayapura, Gadag, Hosapete, Vasco Da Gama and Dharwad at major check points, public entry & exit points. Round the clock monitoring is being ensured from Control Room.

Passenger complaints on Rail Madad portal are attended immediately and feedback is taken from the passengers. Round the clock war room is to address public and staff complaints is set up at Control Office, Hubballi.
