HUBBALLI, May 30: Amid intense lobbying by aspirants, sources in the Congress party said Dharwad Anjuman E Islam President Ismail Tamatgar is all set to win the run for Congress MLC ticket.
The Congress Party functionaries had claim that there is a likelihood of the four seats being divided among the Christians, Muslims, SC and either the Bhovi or Lambani communities. Sources in the party had said that the high command has decided to give preference to Muslim candidate from North Karnataka.
Leaders from Muslim Community including Dharwad Anjuman E Islam President Ismail Tamatgar and Hubballi-Dharwad District Congress Committee President Altaf Halwoor are intensely lobbying for the ticket.
However, it is learnt that Chief Minister Siddaramiah, Ministers Zameer Ahmed Khan and Santosh Lad are in favour of Ismail Tamatgar.
AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge will be announcing the list shortly as June 3 is the last date for filing nominations for the elections to the Legislative Council scheduled for June 13.
