SWR Holds Trail Run Of First Electric Train

Hubballi, March 05: The first electric locomotive of the South Western Railway was run on a trial basis in Dharwad on Friday.

The railway line was electrified for up to 162 km and the CRS will soon be inspected. The SWR has decided to complete, in the next six month, electrification of 111-km Hospet – Hubballi – Castle Rock stretch. The work had been planned for 2020-21.

The broad gauge network of the Indian Railways is planned to be electrified totally by 2023. The SWR electrification works too are going on in full flow and the railway safety commissioner will undertake the inspection of the 162 km-line on March 7, 8 and 9.

The Rail Vikas Nigam Limited has taken up the electrification work from Hubballi, Vasco and Ballari to Chikkajajur and from Baiyappanahalli to Salem.

In the Hubballi Division, the 65-rkm between Hubballi and Alnavar will be inspected by the CSR on March 8.

The line is a part of the Hospet – Hubballi – Vasco section. The 99-rkm Hospet – Hulkoti stretch has also been completed, while the 73-rkm Kariganur – Harlapur stretch will be completed this year.
