RPF Raid: Tickets Worth Rs 23 Lakh Seized From Travel Agents

The city unit of the Railway Protection Force (RPF), in a week-long raid in Bengaluru, arrested 27 agents and confiscated tickets worth Rs 23 lakh.

As many as 10 agents were held and tickets worth Rs 7.7 lakh were seized on January 28, said officers.

The RPF has also seized 125 IDs allotted by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) for personal use of whoever registers on its portal.

A senior railway officer said that the raid was conducted following inputs by the cyber cell at the KSR railway station. The RPF unit found that the travel agents were using the personal IDs to book railway tickets. He explained that agents are permitted to only book using their own IDs. This limits the timings for online bookings by the agents when the Tatkal bookings open on the portal, which has led the agents to misuse the personal IDs.

The RPF has seized two IRCTC agent IDs and 24 cases have been registered against the agents under Section 143(1) of the Railways Act.
