HUBBALLI, July 23: The Kasabapet police of Hubballi busted a Rajasthan-based drug peddlers’ gang and arrested five men near Gabbur Cross in Hubballi on Tuesday.
The arrested have been identified as Shravankumar Bisnoi (33), Omprakash Kupasiya (24), Jagatram Patel (22), Hemaraj Bisnoi (41) and Dhanram Patel (34). All of them are residents of Rajasthan. They were working in garments and fancy stores in Shivamogga, Sirsi, Kumata and Hubballi.
The police have seized 150 gram opium, and 3 kg opium powder from the accused.
Informing this to mediapersons, Hubballi-Dharwad police commissioner N Shashikumar said that these accused were sourcing opium from Rajasthan and Gujarat. They used to target only Rajasthani students studying here and sell opium to them.
The commissioner also said that transporting drug substance has become very easy as traders are bringing it along with their business materials. The accused used to send drugs through bus parcel along with garments or by saying it as medicine.
More details will be ascertained by the arrested and enquiries will be held to trace others involvement in this, commissioner Shashikumar added.
