At a time when more and more people are losing money to online frausters, Karnataka has launched a dedicated helpline to stop fraudulent transactions.
The 112 helpline, said to be the first of its kind in India, is manned by staff who can block the bank accounts of both the victim and the fraudster within 20 minutes. The helpline works 24/7.
The first 60 minutes after a cyber fraud are called the Golden Hour. Cybercrime sleuths say the Golden Hour is extremely important to stop money loss caused by online frauds such as phishing.
Phishing refers to cyber frauds where scamsters ask for bank OTP, ATM PIN, card details etc by claiming they are calling from the bank checking KYC documents. There’s also the QR code fraud where money is debited from the account by sending a QR code to the victim. Ad soon as the victim scans the QR code, the money is siphoned off.
So beware of online money frauds. And God forbid if you do fall prey, call up the 112 helpline immediately. That way, your money will be safe.
