HUBBALLI: The police, who are, in the present context, standing on the streets as frontline workers risking their own lives only to enforce lockdown norms to contain the spread of Covid-19, face various types of people every day.
On Monday, while checking vehicles at Chennamma Circle in Hubballi, a team of cops came across one Devaraya Nayak who works at a private hospital in Hubballi. He was not wearing the mask. When the cops stopped his bike and asked him to wear the mask. Surprisingly, instead of wearing the mask, Nayak indulged in the argument with the police.
“I am wearing the helmet; therefore there is no need to wear the mask. Do whatever you want, I will not wear the mask,” the argued.
When the police asked Nayak to pay the fine, he said, “I have phone numbers of Jagadish Shettar, Prasad Abbayya and even of Bommai. Give me your commissioner’s number and I’ll talk to him. Why should I pay the fine?” he asked.
“Don’t tell us all this, pay the fine and leave from here,” the police said and collected the fine from Nayak before allowing him to move.
