Hubballi Airport’s Apron to be Expanded

HUBBALLI, Sep 30:  Union Minister Pralhad Joshi on Sunday said that the apron at Hubballi Airport, will be expanded to accommodate 10 larger aircrafts.

The minister was reviewing the progress of airport upgradation work here on Sunday.

The Airport Authority of India (AAI) and authorities concerned have approved the expansion plan. Soon a tender will be floated to carry out the construction work, he said.

The existing terminal of Hubballi Aiport has been designed to accommodate 50,000 passengers each year, while the new terminal will be constructed to cater to 250,000 passengers, with an investment of Rs 270 crore, he informed.

“Two more taxiways will also come up to increase the flight handling capacity,”  he added.

Hubballi-Dharwad Mayor Ramappa Badiger, MLAs Arvind Bellad, Mahesh Tenginkai, Airport Director Rupesh Kumar S, and others were present.

Whats is airport apron?

The area of an airport where aircrafts are parked unloaded or loaded, refueled, boarded, or maintained is called airport apron. Currently, the apron of Hubballi airport has the capacity to accommodate only four smaller aircrafts.
