Dharwad Forum Slaps Rs. 85,000 Fine on SBI

DHARWAD, Sept 09: The Dharwad District Consumer Grievances Redressal Forum has levied a fine of more than Rs 85,000 on State Bank of India’s Haliyal branch in Uttara Kannada district based on a complaint filed by a Hubballi lecturer.
According to a DH report, one Vadirajacharya Inamdar, a lecturer in English in Government PU College at Rajnagar in Hubballi, had filed a complaint against the bank for rejecting a cheque of Rs. 6,000 only because it was written in Kannada Language.
Taking a serious note of his complaint, Forum president Ishappa Bhute, members V A Bolishetti and P C Hiremath, issued an order on September 7 saying that the bank should pay Rs 85,177 as compensation and fine.
