Biomedical Waste Thrown On Roadside Near Gokul Road, Hubballi

HUBBALLI: Residents are shocked to find biomedical waste dumped on the roadside at a residential area off Gokul Road in Hubballi.

Used syringes, saline bottles, saline pipes, expired medicines and other medical waste were dumped at Golden Town near Hosur.

Krishna Khode, a resident of Golden Town, said: “Sparsh Hospital and Gadagi Hospital are located close-by. But we do not know who has thrown biomedical waste on this public place. No one is taking responsibility for it. The authorities concerned must immediately take action and look into the issue,” he said.

Civic activist and president of the AAP Dharwad district unit, Santosh P. Nargund, said biomedical waste was required to be disposed as per the Biomedical Waste Management Rules, 2016, and the authorities must ensure this.

“We are in the middle of the pandemic. Finding medical waste on streets is a serious issue. Just buying or announcing that we would buy hi-tech equipment for KIMS Hospital or any other government healthcare facility and not knowing what is happening on the ground is not the sign of a good administration,” Nargund averred.

Other residents also raised concerns over the callous disposal of biomedical waste by hospitals.
