ABVP Members Protest in-front of Gurukul

HUBBALLI, Aug 12: Students and ABVP members staged a protest in front of Dr Gangubai Hangal Gurukul at Unkal in the City on August 12 urging the state government to continue Gurukul model education under Dr Gangubai Hangal Gurukul Trust.

ABVP secretary Sachin Kulageri said it is the only institute in the country to continue Gurukul model education. Hence, it is not acceptable to hand over the institute to Dr Gangubai Hangal Music and Performing Arts University in Mysuru.

Soon after the Gurukul came under the university, the varsity asked all 19 students of Gurukul to vacate the premises and get fresh admission to continue the music education. “The students have already completed two years of education in their four-year course of Gurukul education and now the varsity asked them to vacate the premises and get admissions in the university,” alleged one of the students of the Gurukul.

For the last 10 days, students are not being given food at the Gurukul. Some outsiders, who have concerns over the music students, are supplying food to the students. The officials have been forcing students to vacate the premises, he alleged.

The tehsildar assured the students that the administration will provide water and meals to the students. “Deputy Commissioner Divya Prabhu has talked to the students and our leaders through phone calls and informed that a meeting will be held tomorrow,” the protesters said.
