Valvemen’s Protest Enters 11th Day, Women Protesters Write Letter to President in Blood

DHARWAD,Feb 08: The hunger protest demanding reappointment of valvemen who were earlier attached to Karnataka Urban Water Supply And Drainage Board – KUWS&DB has entered to 11th day.

The valvemen have been protesting, urging the government to get them re-appointed and settle pending salaries.

The protest which is being led by Janjagruti Sangha president Basavaraj Koravar at the corporation office premises has now got support from Congress and JD(S) leaders and gram panchayat members.

Several women protesters have written letters in blood to the President of India Draupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

Earlier, corporators of HDMC raised the issue and demanded the HDMC to decide to settle the protesting valvemen salaries, which have been pending for the last eight months.

Congress leaders Deepak Chinchore, Shivaleela Kulkarni, Eshwar Shivalli, Arvind Egangoudar and JD(S) district president Gururaj Hunasimarad visited the dharna site and demanded the government to reappoint 358 valvemen.

They criticised the BJP government for not responding to the hunger protest staged by the valvemen and Koravar.
