BENGALURU, JANUARY 28: Primary and Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar has said that full-day classes will be held for Classes 9 and 10 as well as 1st and 2nd PUC in the state, starting February 1.
The minister, who addressed reports on Thursday, said that the state government took the decision consulting the Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar and the Covid-19 Technical Advisory Committee. The health and educational aspects of students were kept in mind while taking the decision, he added.
Kumar said that the Vidyagama programme will continue, thereby continuing schooling for students from Classes six to eight. The decision to start classes for other levels will be taken after observing the present setup till the second week of February, he added.
It may be recalled that the government, having shut the classes due to the pandemic last year, had reopened the Classes 10 and II PUC in addition to the Vidyagama programme for Classes six to nine, for half a day, starting January 1 this year.
The classes will continue offline or online – based on the students’ and parents’ choice. Attendance is not compulsory for these classes, said the minister.
He also said that the students showed interest in returning to regular classes. There had also been a demand from the parents and the school development and monitoring committees to continue the classes.
There has been an average of 75% attendance in II PUC classes, 70% in Class 10. The Vidyagama programme itself had recorded 45% attendance in classes, said Kumar.
The minister added that the SSLC examinations for the year would be held from June 14 to 25.

The date sheet for the examination schedule, however, has not been put up on the official site yet, reported Deccan Herald.
