Paid Leave on May 7 for Workers Working in Shops, Factories? Here’s DC’s Order

DHARWAD, April 7: As the second phase of Lok Sabha election is scheduled on May 7, poll preparations are on full swing in Dharwad district. The district will go for polls on May 7.

District returning officer Divya Prabhu announced that workers working in shops, commercial establishments, factories and other establishments within Dharwad Lok Sabha constituency should get a paid leave on May 7.

“The Representation of People Act, 1951, requires businesses and establishments within the voting area to declare a holiday on polling day. Consequently, employees are entitled to a paid holiday without salary deductions,” she added.

“Owners of all factories, shops and commercial establishments should give a paid leave on polling day to facilitate their employees to exercise their right to vote,” Divya Prabhu ordered.

Legal Action Against Owners for not Giving Paid Holiday:

According to a press release, all employers should grant paid holiday to their employees. Appropriate action will be initiated against the management if paid holiday was not granted on the day of polling.
