Haiti Jail Break: Prison Head Killed, 100 Escape
Haiti: A 100 and more jail inmates escaped from the civil prison in Croix-des-Bouquets on Thursday. The prison director and seven other people died in the prison break.
An armed group started the shootout in the civil prison. They shot the prison guards before the inmates made away, as local residents who witnessed the incident told the press.
One escapee is also said to have been seriously injured in the incident. About 40 inmates were recaptured by the police, who managed to take control of the prison again.
A former gang leader in Haiti was imprisoned in Croix-des-Bouquets. He is also said to have escaped on Thursday.
Incidentally, the prison, which had been constructed in 2012, witnessed a similar break in 2014, when 300 inmates had escaped.
