Dharwad Lad Takes Charge Of Southern Naval Command

DHARWAD: Man from City, Vice-Admiral Makarand Arvind Hampiholi, has assumed charge as the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command at Kochi in Kerla. He was the commandant of the prestigious Indian Naval Academy at Ezhimala prior to assuming command of the Southern Naval Command.

Makarand was born in Dharwad, and pursued his primary education at St Joseph’s High School. He later joined the Sainik School in Vijayapura. After passing out from Sainik School, he joined the National Defense Academy.

According to reports, he is the first alumnus of the Sainik School to have risen to the coveted post of Commanding-in-Chief of Command Headquarters. He holds MPhil in Strategic & Security Studies from two universities.

Makarand’s father Arvind Hampiholi had served in Indian Army before joining the Commercial Tax Department in Karnataka. His mother Sangeeta Hampiholi, a renowned singer, was an announcer in All India Radio in Dharwad.
