DHARWAD: The Covid-19 cases being reported in the district are on a declining trend, as the district reported 519 coronavirus cases on Saturday. The district used to report cases somewhere between 700 and 1,100 everyday.
Large & Medium Scale Industries & District In-charge Minister Jagadish Shettar said that the present 14-day lockdown was helping a lot in getting the cases down.
“The situation can be considered as returned to normalcy when the case positivity rate comes to 5% or below,” he added.
Positivity rate of the district has now come down from 30% to 16%, while the number of beds available in hospitals is increasing.
The district, however, reported 19 Covid-related deaths on Saturday taking the toll to 940.
“Covid death rate is yet to come down in the district. Deaths being reported now are that of patients admitted two weeks back, and the fatality rate is expected to come down soon,” he observed.
Neighbouring district Belagavi saw 1,027 new cases on Saturday and reported 9 deaths due to Covid-19 complications.
Haveri district recorded 194 fresh cases and seven deaths. Similarly, Gadag reported 307 fresh cases and five Covid-related deaths.
