Communal Clash, Murder Of Youth In Naragund: Cong Leader Calls For In-Depth Investigation

HUBBALLI: Hubballi-Dharwad District Congress Committee President Altaf Halwoor has called for an in-depth investigation into the murder of a 19-year-old man who was stabbed with a knife by a group of youths behind the

town municipal council office in Naragund recently.

“Law and Order situation has totally collapsed in Karnataka and in the country as well. Communal clashes have been taking places in the various parts of the country because a few so called sadhus are giving hate speeches constantly to provoke communal feelings,” he alleged.

Urging Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and Home Minister Araga Dnyanendra to take strict action, Halwoor said, “All the culprits responsible for the Naragund communal clashes should be arrested as soon as possible and subjected to stringent punishment.”

Details of the incident:

Clash among two communities had been going on in Nargund for the last few days. On Monday, it resulted in the murder of a 19-year-old man.

On Monday night, a group of youths of one community stabbed two youths from another community with a knife when they were moving on a bike. The incident was recorded on a CCTV camera and the video had been circulating on social media.

The injured youths were rushed to the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) in Hubballi. However, Shameer Shahapur (19), who was critically injured, died on Tuesday morning. Shamsheer Pathan who was injured is under treatment.

Superintendent of Police Shivaprakash Devaraju said that four people have been arrested in connection with the case. Those arrested have been identified as Mallikarjun Hiremath, Sakrappa Kaknoor, Channu Akki and Sanju Nalavade, all of Naragund.
