Hubballi,June 30: Dr. B. Gopalakrisha, Commissioner , Hubballi – Dharwad Mahanagara Palike ( HDMP ) said – “ According to 4 (2 ) of Plastic Waste Management Rules 2016 ( Amended ), including Polystyrene and Expanded Polystyrene(EPS), production, import, storage, distribution, sale and usage of single –use plastic is banned from tomorrow, July 1.
Issuing a notification in this regard, according to The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MOEF and CC ), Plastic Waste Management Rules 2021, along with banned single-use plastic products, excessively used single-plastic items like ear buds, plastic sticks used for balloons, Plastic flags, Plastic Candy sticks, Plastic Ice Cream Sticks, Polystyrene used for decoration ( Thermocol ), Plastic Plates, Plastic Cups, Forks, Plastic Spoons, Plastic Knifes, Plastic Trays ( Cutleries ),Sweet Box Packing Films, Invitation Cards, Cigarette Packs, PVC Banners or less than 100 micron, Plastic Stirrers are banned from July 1.
Producers, Stockists, Retail Merchants, Shop Owners, E-Commerce Companies, Street Vendors, Commercial Establishments (Malls / Market Places /Shopping Centres /Cinema Halls /Tourist Places /Schools /Colleges, office complexes, Hospitals and other organisations and General Public are notified to stop the production, storage, distribution, sales and usage of single-use plastic and the concerned units have to take necessary action to ensure the zero inventory of plastic items.
If the order is violated by the Industries, Commercial Establishments / Malls/Market Places/Shopping Centres/Cinema Theatres/Tourist Places /Schools / Colleges /Offices / Hospitals and other organisations, under Environment Protection act, 1986, an action of seizing the banned plastic products and shutting down the establishments will be taken as informed by HDMP commissioner in a notification.
