Transgender Community’s Monthly Pension Should Be Increased: Rajat

HUBBALLI: Siddaramaiah-led State Government had announced Rs.500 monthly pension for Transgender Community in 2014 when the petrol price was around Rs. 57 per liter. In 2022, when the fuel price has crossed Rs. 100 benchmark, the pension amount for this community is still the same,” said Congress leader Rajat Ullagaddimath.

Ullagaddimath noted this during a felicitation programme held for transgenders as a part of his 30th birthday celebration in Hubballi.

Addressing the members of the Transgender Community, he said that the government of neighbouring state Andhrapradesh is giving Rs. 3000 monthly pension for transgender. “But the present government of Karnataka is turning a blind eye on increasing the pension amount for this community,” he alleged.

“Nobody is raising voice in favour of transgender. If you all support me, we together can strive for forming a Transgenders’ Commission. There is an English saying: If you want to walk fast, walk alone. If you want to walk far, walk together. Based on this quote, we have organised this programme,” Ullagaddimath added.

Probably, Rajat Ullagaddimath is the first politician from Hubballi-Dharwad to organise a special programme for transgenders as part of birthday celebration. A free health check-up camp and legal awareness programme were also conducted during the programme.
