Amid the growing number of Covid-19 cases, the government has brought back the idea of containment zones. Subsequently, officials are focusing on hostels, institutions and other facilities that can develop into large clusters.
State Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar said on Monday that educational institutions, hostels, or boarding facilities where five or more cases of Covid-19 are found, will be declared containment zones.
Sudhakar was addressing media after a video conference with several district authorities on the prevention of second Covid wave and the diminishing vaccination coverage.
Local health authorities will declare an area as a containment zone. Special surveillance measures will be initiated in such areas. No food service, hotels or restaurants can open in containment zones.
An apartment in Bellandur in Bengaluru was declared a containment zone on Monday after 10 cases were reported. Barricades could be seen outside the apartment complex.
