Dharwad,June 26: The First of its kind Human Milk Bank jointly set up by Karnataka Vikas Grameen Bank (KVGB), Rotary Club of Seven Hills and SDM Medical College would be inaugurated at SDM Hospital at Sattur near Dharwad on June 29 at 9:30 am.
Dharmashtala Dharmadhikari D. Veerendra Heggade would inaugurate the milk bank in the presence of KVGB Chairman P. Gopi Krishna and members of Rotary club.
Currently, there are Human Milk Banks in Bengaluru and Belagavi. This is useful for Infants born prematurely with impossibility for breastfeeding. This will enhance the immunity among infants and helps to prevent maternal deaths said Gopi Krishna.
Dr .Ratnamala Desai, Head of the Department of OBG says – “Breast feeding mothers with additional milk can donate and the milk thus collected shall be examined and processed so that it can be supplied to the needy infants .In this connection in coming days Asha Heath Workers and Anganwadi workers shall be given an awareness programme to arrange for the collection of the milk from mothers. “
