Pralhad Joshi Gets BJP Ticket for Fifth Time from Dharwad Constituency

HUBBALLI, Mar 13: The BJP on March 13 named 72 more candidates for the Lok Sabha elections, including Union Minister Pralhad Joshi and former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

Pralhad Joshi will fight from Dharwad constituency while former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai will contest from Haveri whereas, former Chief Minister B. S. Yediyurappa’s son B. Y. Raghavendra will contest from Shivamogga.

Interestingly, Yaduveer Krishnadatta Wadiyar of the erstwhile Mysore Royal family replaces Pratap Simha as the BJP candidate in the Mysore seat.

Dharwad Constituency as BJP’s Bastion for 5 terms:

Dharwad Lok Sabha Constituency can be considered as a strong bastion of BJP as the saffron party holds this seat from 1996. Earlier known as Dharwad North Lok Sabha Constituency was with Congress from 1980 to 1996 as DK Naikar from Congress had won for four terms.

In 1996, Vijay Sankeshwar break the chain of Congress’ victory and emerged victorious on BJP ticket. Since then, the saffron party continued to win all MP elections as incumbent MP Pralhad Joshi continued to win from 2004 to 2019.

Joshi would definitely want to create a record by winning the constituency for the fifth time.
