Police Intensify Lockdown, Deploy Additional Force

DHARWAD: In a bid to observe a strict lockdown throughout the Dharwad district, the district administration has beefed up the police security.   

The two-day lockdown, which will be in force from 6 am on May 22 to 6 am on May 24, has been implemented to contain the spread of COVID-19. 

Following the instructions given by Hubballi-Dharwad police commissioner Labhuram, all the police stations in the city limits created awareness about the weekend lockdown by making announcements through the loudspeakers.

Following security, arrangements have been made. 

  • More barricades were put up on the borders of each police station limits and in the main areas of the twin cities to prevent people moving from one place to another. 
  • Four additional highway patrolling vehicles have been deployed. 
  • Similarly, nine DAR platoons have also been deputed.
  • Grocery shops, hotels, barbershops, and industries will remain closed completely. 
  • Only emergency medical services would be allowed, and medical shops would be open.
  • However, people will be allowed to purchase only milk, fruits, and vegetables from 6:00 am to 8:00 am on May 22 and 23.
  • People have also been banned from using vehicles while going out to purchase essentials in the morning.
  • Only vehicles on medical emergency would be allowed, that too with valid documents.
  • The district administration has asked the public to cooperate with the police in the fight against coronavirus and not indulge in the argument with the cops.

  • If anyone is found violating the guidelines, such persons will be booked under The Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897 (Central Epidemic Act-3 of 1897), The Karnataka Epidemic Diseases Covid-19 Regulations Act, 2020.
