Now Voter IDs Can Be Downloaded: Law Minister To Launch This Service Today

Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad will, on Monday, launch the e-version of the voters’ ID to observe the anniversary of the Election Commission, which came into existence on January 25, 1950.

The day is currently being observed as National Voters’ Day.

The Election Commission has said that the new card is a non-editable, digital version of the elector photo identity card (EPIC). The e-EPIC can be downloaded onto mobile phones or computers. Voters can save the new format of the card in digital lockers, for instance, or get it printed in PDF format.

The Commission added that quick delivery of and easy access to the voters’ ID is the aim of the new system, as the voters have to wait for a considerable amount of time to get the printed versions of their respective IDs.

The minister will not only launch the e-EPIC programme but also distribute the e-EPICs as well as EPICs to five new voters.
