Meet This Genius Scientist from Hubballi, Brother of Sudha Murthy
HUBBALLI, Nov 29: Shrinivas Ramchandra Kulkarni, a renowned US-based space scientist, is a son of Dr. R. H. Kulkarni who was a surgeon based in Hubballi.
Shrinivas’ sister Sudha Murthy is one of the co-founders of Infosys and other sister is Jaishree Deshpande, wife of Gururaj Deshpande and the third sister is Sunanda Kulkarni.
He was born on 4th October 1956 in Kurundwad, a small town in Maharashtra. He was raised in Hubballi along with his sisters and received schooling at local schools in Hubballi. Later he joined Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Delhi) to obtain MS in applied Physics. He them moved to University of California and pursued PhD.
Shrinivas started his career as a radio astronomer. He discovered the first millisecond pulsar with his colleagues. He played vital role in the discovery of the first globular cluster using a supercomputer.
Apart from these, Shrinivas has made several important astronomical discoveries which bagged him a range of prestigious awards.
When Shrinivas Kulkarni had visited Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai; he had said I came to India to interact with members of the department of astronomy and astrophysics at TIFR and see if I can develop new collaborations with them. I am also here to help the students with research opportunities and help get appropriate data for their work.
