Hubballi Police Register Case as Fake Mumbai Police Loot Rs. 95 Lakh from Retired Banker

HUBBALLI, Oct 24: A retired banker was threatened of digital arrest by fake Mumbai police and was extorted Rs 95.50 lakh in Dharwad.

The 77-year-old retired banker was approached by fake police through a WhatsApp call. The fake police said a case of ‘illegal advertising, pornographic video and harassing text messages to the public’ has been registered against him. They also showed the retired man an FIR where his name and Aadhaar card number were mentioned.

The fraudsters also gave an offer of closing the case, but they demanded his account details to check his transaction. They managed to transfer Rs 62.50 lakh on September 27, Rs 26 lakh on October 7 and Rs 7 lakh on October 8 from three different bank accounts of the victim to their account.

A case has been registered with Hubballi CEN police station.
