Hubballi-Dharwad Smart City Parking Facility To Have Trial Run Next Week

HUBBALLI, FEBRUARY 01: Trial run of the puzzle parking facility in the city is expected to begin as soon as permissions are received from certain government departments.

The run is also expected to be taken out next week, as the construction of the facility has been completed. As many as 37 cars were recently parked in the five levels of the parking system to check the stability.

The Hubballi-Dharwad Smart City Limited is providing the puzzle parking facility to deal with the parking problems faced by the citizens of Hubballi and Dharwad. The Delhi-based contractor has received the tender for construction and maintenance of the parking facility within five years.

The new facility, which is the first of the kind in the state, is constructed at a cost of Rs 4.59 crore on 180 square metres, at the Mahatma Gandhi Park. An electromagnetic facility will help lift the vehicles and park them in the limited area provided without any problem.

An officer concerned said that they have applied for permission from government departments including the Fire Department and hope to get them in a couple of days, in order to conduct the trial run.

The date for inauguration, however, will be set post-budget sessions of both Parliament and Assembly.

With regard to the fees for parking in the system, H S Naregal, special officer of the Smart City Limited, has said that a special committee will fix the rate and time for parking and assured that the fee will be nominal.
