Health Minister Visits KIMS, Expresses Displeasure Over Doctors’ Conduct

HUBBALLI TIMES NEWS DESK

HUBBALLI: Karnataka Health Minister Dr. K Sudhakar visited Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) in Hubballi on Saturday and expressed displeasure over the treatment provided to COVID-19 patients.

The minister was addressing the Heads of the Institution after reviewing the KIMS’ administration and the way treatment is given to Covid patients.

“There are about 1,000 doctors in KIMS, and 1,030 Covid patients being treated here. This ratio of doctors and patients is nowhere in the country. You need to introspect how effectively you have discharged your duty. If all other personnel are taken into account, then the hospital has the strength of over 2,000 staff. Even though, performance did not meet the expectations,” Dr. Sudhakar said.

“It has come to our notice that a Head of the Department in KIMS is running his private hospital, while some doctors are working in private hospitals and coming and signing the register here,” the Minister alleged.

Since doctors are being paid lakhs of rupees in salaries, they must serve without fail. The district administration must hire the services of additional doctors wherever needed. The KIMS director should assign all doctors to Covid duty, Dr Sudhakar said.

“Work hard for another one month. Try to avoid deaths. Every life is precious. You should work without committing mistakes as you have come to this profession by your own interest,” he advised.

The minister sought stringent action against some senior doctors and specialists, whose conduct, according to the minister, is bringing a bad name to the institution and demoralising others, who are sincere.
