HDMC Bans Animal Slaughter, Sale of Meat on Friday

HUBBALLI, Nov 24: Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation has ordered a ban on the slaughter of animals and the sale of meat across the twin cities on Friday, November 25.

According to a press note, the HDMC has passed the ban order on account of birth anniversary of Sadhu TL Vaswani.

“Instructions have been given to close all meat shops on Monday. If any shop found open, the HDMC would cancel its license. Everybody should follow the Government Order,” HDMC health officer said.

About Sadhu TL Vaswani:

Thanwardas Lilaram Vaswani was an Indian educationist who started the Mira Movement In Education and set up St. Mira’s School in Hyderabad, Sindh, and later moved to Pune after 1949. A museum, Darshan Museum dedicated to his life and teaching was opened in Pune, in 2011.

According to Wikipedia, when Vaswani was a boy, he attended the Academy at Hyderabad-Sind. As a boy, he first learned about the sacred texts called the Upanishads from Brahmabandhav Upadhyay, a Brahmin from Bengal who adopted Christianity but later, in 1907 he did undergo prayashchitta (expression of reparation in Hindu custom) through a public ceremony to return into Hinduism. Later in his lifetime, Sadhu Vaswani was recognized as an accomplished proponent of the Upanishads and a skilled interpreter of the Bible and the Qur’an.
