BIS Seizes Huge Quantity of Drinking Water Bottles. Here’s Why

HUBBALLI, March 22: A team of officials from Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Hubballi branch office, seized huge quality of packaged drinking water with spurious ISI mark during a raid on Thursday.

A press release from BIS said, on the basis of specific information, a team of BIS authorities from Hubballi conducted a raid on M/s H2O Industries located at Vidyagiri in Bagalkot.

“The unit had packaged drinking water in 200ml Pouches, 500 ml PET bottles, 1 litre PET bottles, and 2 litre PET bottles bearing labels with spurious ISI mark under the brand name Aqua Smooth,” the release said.

“The firm did not have a valid BIS license. The offence is punishable with imprisonment of up to two years or a fine not less than ₹2 lakh,” it added.

Customers, before purchasing a product, may confirm the status of BIS license through BIS Care app. If the license is found to be suspended, they may inform BIS of such misuse of ISI mark through the same app, the release said.
