HUBBALLI, Oct 09: The Suburban Police have arrested two individuals for allegedly impersonating Lokayukta police officers and attempting to extort money from an engineer in the city planning division of the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation, according to DCP (Law and Order) Mahaning Nandagavi.
During a press briefing today, Nandagavi revealed that the accused, identified as Sharan Patil and Zakir Mulla, residents of Sattur, called the engineer, Vilas, and falsely claimed that a complaint had been filed against him with the Lokayukta. They demanded Rs. 1.5 lakh to “settle” the case.
The suspects instructed Vilas to visit their office in Sattur for resolution. When he arrived, they reiterated their demand for Rs. 1.5 lakh. However, the engineer became suspicious and filed a complaint at the Suburban Police Station.
Based on Vilas’s complaint, Sharan Patil and Zakir Mulla were taken into custody and have been remanded to judicial custody. The police will continue to investigate whether the accused have committed similar offenses elsewhere, Nandagavi added.
