HUBBALLI, 21: The city police on Friday evening crushed more than 200 modified silencers under a road roller at Channamma Circle in Hubballi.
Addressing mediapersons, Hubball-Dharwad police commissioner Renuka Sukumar said that modified and faulty silencers worth rupees 11 lakh were destroyed to teach a lesson to the traffic norms violators.
She said that the police were receiving complaints from senior citizens and school-college students saying that the modified silencers were destroying their peace. Following the complaint, the police took this action.
“There some mechanics and shops who are specialized in modifying the silencers and selling them. We have warned them not to indulge in such activity,” the commissioner said.
