HUBBALLI: The number of Covid-19 cases in SDM College of Medical Sciences and Hospital in Dharwad is increasing as the college reported 22 new positive cases on Friday. With this, the total number of the cases has risen up to 204.
The district had been recording zero positivity of late. It, however, suffered a jolt when 66 students tested positive for the deadly virus on November 25. Later, the number was increased to 182 and now it has reached to 204.
As many as 11 counters had been set up on the campus to collect swab samples. With suspicion the affected persons being infected by a variant of the COVID-19 virus, samples have been sent to Bengaluru for genome sequencing. The reports are expected by November 27 evening.
Schools, Colleges Declared Holiday
Deputy Commissioner Nitesh Patil has said, as a precautionary measure, the schools and colleges in a radius of 500 metres from the SDM College of Medical Sciences and Hospital campus have been declared holiday until Sunday.
