Stricter Lockdown Likely In Dharwad, Decision Soon

HUBBALLI: Union minister Pralhad Joshi on Thursday (May 20) indicated that a stricter lockdown can be implemented in the Dharwad district to curb the COVID-19 spread.

Suggestions on extending the lockdown were pooled in from traders, APMC representatives, businessmen and various trade associations at a meeting chaired by the district in-charge minister Jagdish Shettar at the Circuit House in Hubballi today. 

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Joshi said that the decision on the continuation of the lockdown would be taken tomorrow (May 21).

“The Covid positivity rate has increased in the district. Tough measures will be taken in the coming days by imposing a strict lockdown. Many in the meeting supported a stricter lockdown to break the chain of infection. A final decision about extending the lockdown will be taken tomorrow after a discussion with the district in-charge minister and the deputy commissioner,” he said.

Dharwad Deputy Commissioner Nitesh Patil is likely to announce the details of the extension of the lockdown on Friday.
