Joshi Directs Banks to Give Crop Loans as Per RBI Guidelines

DHARWAD, Sep 14: Union Minister Pralhad Joshi said there are RBI guidelines for providing crop loans up to Rs 10 lakh to farmers without any objection. This has to be followed by the bakers.

Convening a meeting of the District Lead Bank officers’ in Dharwad on Friday, Joshi directed the bankers not to unnecessarily disturb the farmers in the name of |CIBIL rating, and denying loans. If the farmers are denied loans, it would directly affect the food production.

The central government has been giving priority to self-employment, hence banks should properly implement community and individual schemes. The banks should release loans as per their target and progress should be made in a time-bound manner, he said.

District Lead Bank Manager Prabhudeva N G said agricultural crop loans target was Rs 610.8 crore by June end, but they disbursed Rs 650.34 crore to the farmers, which is 106.47% achievement. “The loan target for micro, small and medium enterprises was Rs 2,357.81 crore by June end, but the banks have disbursed Rs 3,312.98 crore which is 140.51% achievement in the trimester,” he said.
