Hubballi: Man Attempts Bank Robbery after Losing Money in Stock Market

HUBBALLI, Sep 06: APMC-Navanagara police have arrested a youth who made an unsuccessful attempt to rob Union Bank of India APMC Amargol Branch in Hubballi on Thursday evening.

The arrested has been identified as 28-year-old Manjunath Habib, a resident of Gopanakoppa in Hubballi.

According to police, Manjunath entered the bank at around 4.30 pm wearing a face mask. He overpowered a bank employee at the knife point and took him near cash counter. Then he said, “Give me Rs 10 lakh otherwise I will kill you”, the police informed.

When the locals came to rescue the bank employee, Manjunath pushed the employee and flee from the spot.

A team of APMC police led by Inspector Samiullah arrested Manjunath Habib and registered a case against him.

During the inquiry, the police found that the accused had lost money in the stock market and was in financial distress. Therefore, he attempted to extort the bank money. Appropriate legal action has been taken against the accused, the police informed.
