MLA Tenginkai, Hundreds of BJP Workers Detained for Attempting to Gherao CM’s Vehicle

HUBBALLI, Oct 13: Hundreds of BJP workers, including MLA Mahesh Tenginkai, were detained for attempting to gherao Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in protest against the state government’s decision to drop the case related to the Old Hubballi violence.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar were in Hubballi to launch various works on Sunday. BJP workers staged a protest at Akshay Park Circle, along the route of the CM’s convoy. The protesters blocked the road, demanding that the government not to withdraw the case of Old Hubballi violence and take legal action against former MLA Vinay Kulkarni, who is accused in a sexual assault case.

Before the Chief Minister arrived at Hubballi Airport, police detained the protesters and took them to the Old CR Grounds. Among those detained were MLA Mahesh Tenginkai, district president Tippanna Majjagi, Prabhu Navalagundmath, Raju Jaratarghar, Mohan Hiremani, and Ashok Katwe, along with hundreds of other workers.
