264 Two-Wheelers and Three Autos Seized in Hubballi

HUBBALLI, Oct 27: Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner N. Shashikumar revealed that, following a city-wide night operation, a total of 264 two-wheelers and three autos were seized from 14 designated checkpoints in Hubballi.

During an inspection of the seized vehicles last night, Commissioner Shashikumar stated that the operation was carried out across five police station jurisdictions, including Hubballi Town, Ghantikeri, Kasaba Peth, Old Hubballi, and Bendigiri. Public complaints about issues such as overspeeding, traffic violations, and drink & drive had prompted the operation.

The check posts were set up at 14 locations in the south division, where vehicles without proper number plates or necessary documentation were seized. Only vehicles with valid documents were excluded from seizure, while others were impounded as a preventive measure against chain-snatching, robbery, theft, and other crimes. The Commissioner noted that some vehicles were often used for harassment near places frequented by women.

Cases have been filed against the seized vehicles, and vehicle owners can reclaim them by following the legal process. Commissioner Shashikumar urged the public to maintain proper documentation, which can even be shown through the DigiLocker app. He added that the operation was part of a series of preventive measures, especially with Diwali approaching, to enhance the safety of women and students. The Commissioner also cautioned parents against allowing minors to drive, stressing the need for public cooperation in such preventive steps.

The operation will continue in phases, with additional checkpoints and action planned. Already, three auto-rickshaws and multiple four-wheelers, often used in thefts or illegal activities, have been seized as part of the ongoing enforcement.
