Woman Stabbed in Hubballi, Police Shot at Accused in Leg

HUBBALLI, Sep 26: A 45-year-old woman was stabbed in front of her daughters and mother at her house in Lohiya nagar in Old-Hubballi police limits on Wednesday afternoon.

The accused has been identified as Mahesh Meti (25) who stabbed Neela Hampannavar (45). She has been shifted to KMC-RI Hospital for the treatment.

Meti, a labourer in Old Hubballi, was in love (one way) with a daughter of Neela and following her movements.

According to locals, Meti was in one-sided love affair with a daughter of Neela. On Wednesday, he rushed to the girl’s house and tried to attack her. While the family members were trying to protect the girl, Meti stabbed Neela in her stomach and flee from the spot.

Soon after the incident, the Old Hubballi police managed to find Meti and arrested him.

According to police, Meti had planned to kill the girl and flee from the City. When Meti took the police to show his friends, who were waiting to help him flee, he allegedly attacked Old Hubballi Police Inspector Suresh Hallur and another cops.

In self-defence, Inspector Hallur fired a bullet in the air and another at the accused leg, said Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar.

The injured accused and cops have been shifted to KMC-RI for treatment.
