THIS MOSQUE DELIVERS FRIDAY SERMON IN KANNADA FOR 200 YEARS

HUBBALLI: Usually mosques deliver Juma khutba (sermons) in Urdu. But, a mosque in the Haveri district of North Karnataka has been delivering Juma khutbas in Kannada Language for last 200 years.

The mosque is located at Chikkabbar village in Rattihalli taluk of Haveri district. According to the villagers, the mosque was constructed 200 years ago and since then the khutbas are being delivered in Kannada Language. In addition, Muslims here do not know even to speak in Urdu Language.

Around 10,000 people live in this village, in which 480 Muslim families and 400 Hindu families are there, who live peacefully with communal harmony. Locals say that passersby interestingly listen to the sermon beyond the religious barriers on Fridays.
