STRIKE HIT BANKING SERVICES IN TWIN CITIES

HUBBALLI: Operations at branches of public sector banks across the twin cities were impacted on Wednesday due to a strike held here in support of the nation-wide strike by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU).

In September, the government had announced merger of state-owned Vijaya Bank and Dena Bank with the larger peer Bank of Baroda.

The bank employees, who raised slogans against the Central Government, staged a protest in front of the Union Bank on Station Road in Hubballi against the merger and also demanded immediate settlement of wage negotiations.

The UFBU convenor HV Rai, Santosh Kumar Hallur and others participated in the protest.
