HUBBALLI: In a bid to prevent any untoward incident during the Tipu Jayanti celebrations by the State government on November 10, the Hubballi-Dharwad police commissioner MN Nagaraj has issued orders impose prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code in the twin cities of Hubballi-Dharwad with effect from Saturday 6 am. The orders will be in force till 6 a.m. on Sunday.
“To avoid any untoward incident, Prohibitory Orders have been clamped. Processions, display of flags, raising of slogans, etc have been banned,” MN Nagaraj said in a statement.
The celebrations of Tipu Sultan’s birth anniversary on November 10 has been opposed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which has accused the ruling JD(S)-Congress coalition government of conducting the celebrations to appease the Muslim community.
