HUBBALLI: The district administration has initiated intensive testing through rapid antigen kits in populous parts of the city, following spike in positive cases in the district from last 15 days.
Several teams of Health officials and policemen thronged the shops in Durgadbail and other market areas in the twin cities asking them to undergo rapid antigen Covid-19 testing. However, fear and anxiety gripped people when they were suddenly asked to undergo the test. Subsequently, some of the shopkeepers voluntarily closed the shutters and chose to remain away from the test, while the people were in panic.
Deputy Commissioner Nitish Patil visited Durgadabail and said that more than 60 people there had been tested. Six people have shown positive and taken for treatment. The shops of people who were positive were sealed down.
In Dharwad, over a dozen shops sealed down after some of the shop owners and those working in the shops tested positive. The shops which were sealed down would remain closed for next seven days.
Those who tested positive were either sent for home-isolation, or to Covid Care Centres depending on their health situation.
The market that was full of people since morning went empty suddenly. Following eight people testing positive, businessmen shut shop and the teams conducting the tests were forced to go their homes as a result.
