Railway Employees, Women Arrested for Stealing Bikes

HUBBALLI, Sep 28: In a major crackdown, Vidyanagar police have busted a gang of bike lifters and arrested five persons including two women and railway employees in Hubballi.

The arrested have been identified as Reshma Gudageri, Ravi alias Nilesh Bansode, Asmaban Bagwan, Mubarak Bagwan, and Dastagir Dharwad. Police have also recovered 12 stolen two-wheelers from them.

According to the police, these persons were involved in stealing bikes from parking lots or crowded areas using duplicate keys. Then they used to change the number plates of stolen bikes, remove all stickers, and sell them at throwaway prices, claiming that owners of the bikes need money urgently and documents would be handed over later.

Out of 12 bikes seized, seven were from Vidyanagar Police Station limits, three from Keshwapur Police Station limits, and one each from Hubballi suburb and Dharwad city limits, the police informed.

Further investigation is underway.
