Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa has said no to extending the existing lockdown which is in force in a few districts, according to media reports.
Chairing a Covid-19 review meeting with MPs, ministers and top government officials on Friday, July 17, Yediyurappa stressed that “lockdown is not a solution to the pandemic,” the reports said.
The chief minister’s statement on a day Bengaluru mayor M Goutham Kumar asked for extending the lockdown in the city by another week. BH Anil Kumar, the commissioner of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), also batted for a 14-day lockdown in the city.
Dharwad and Dakshina Kannada are also under a lockdown. The lockdown in Dharwad is the longest, until July 24. There’s also widespread speculation that the lockdown may be extended to curb the spread of Covid-19. Yediyurappa’s statement, however, puts all these speculations to rest.
